Like Living in Paradise

I took a drive along the seashore at the point where the Monterey Bay opens to the Pacific ocean.  It was such a dramatic afternoon.  I didn't have my camera, but just like everyone else, I had my cell phone with its camera. Remembering the adage that the best camera you own is the one you have with you, I stopped and took a picture.  I hadn't seen the kites until just before I snapped the shot.  Lucky me!

Each Day...

It's up and down around here.

Yesterday was such a good day. v awoke smiling and wanted to go for a ride. After lunch, when he still felt like getting out, we set out.  Now it's the three of us;  him, me, and the oxygen tank (portable).  We drive a New Beetle, so the portable tank almost needs a child's seat in the back. We belt it in and take off for points known.

Yesterday it was spotting a whale just off shore in Pacific Grove (bay side), watching people running along the recreation path, and stopping to pick up some really good clam chowder at Vivolo's on Central. Such tender clams...

Such a magical place to live.  We can pull to the side of the road and watch giants only a few feet away breathing the same air that we breath.  Watching the surface of the water and imagining what passes beneath. Oh, we saw one of the other giants too, the Elephant Seal who hangs with the Harbor Seals at Hopkin's Cove.  He's grown!

 Home feels good too.

Pacific Grove

This afternoon we decided to take our supper on the road. We packed our thermos with soup, picked up a baguette and wine at the market and headed for the coast.  The light was so delightful as we passed through this little neighborhood in Pacific Grove I stopped and took some photos.  We love the houses throughout this little town that calls itself "America's Last Hometown".  Originally Pacific Grove was a Methodist summer camp, but it didn't take long for the campers to decide this would be a perfect place to live year round so they built permanent structures at their campsites.

Many of the homes bear plaques announcing the name of the original resident.

In July Pacific Grove puts on the annual Feast of Lanterns festival.  Many homes decorate their porches and gardens with colorful lanterns.

The town, situated at the point of the peninsula, is no longer a Methodist retreat.  It is a charming seaside town with a wide variety of year round residents. Each neighborhood is a delightful mix of architecture and color, we just wanted to share this one with you.
